10 Easy Home Remedies to Get Rid of Dandruff

Dandruff is the greatest enemy of healthy hair. Almost everyone of us has become the victim of dandruff at one time or the other. A slightest sign of it should be treated without delay or it may get out of control. Moreover, dandruff weakens the scalp and the white flakes falling on the skin causes other skin problems.

1.  Brush:

Brush your hair right after a shampoo to help control dandruff problems. Brushing hair often is believed to improve blood circulation in the scalp thereby promoting healthy hair. Brushing also helps in distributing the oil in the scalp more evenly and reduces scalp dryness.

2.  Use Hair conditioner:

The medicated anti-dandruff shampoo is likely to stiffen your hair and make it less manageable. Some of them also dry your scalp that tends to add flaking. Apply a good hair conditioner after washing your hair with anti-dandruff shampoo to overcome this problem and to nourish your hair with moisture.

3.  Bay Leaves:

Add a handful of crushed bay leaves to a liter of hot water. Cover and allow to steep for 20 minutes. Strain, let cool and apply. If you want, you can leave this concoction in your hair for an hour then rinse it.

4.  Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is best known for its cooling and soothing properties. This oil helps moisturize the skin naturally. If you have tea tree oil readily, try to apply it directly onto your scalp leaving on for a few minutes and then give a rinse.

5.  Apple Cider Vinegar:

This is one of the best and most effective dandruff remedies. Simply mix an equal amount of water and ACV and apply the mixture on your scalp. Massage it gently using your fingertips. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then wash your hair with warm water. Do this every day for a week.

6.  Fenugreek Seeds:

Roughly grind a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds using a mortar and pestle. Now add two cups of water to the seeds and allow them to soak for a while. At night before going to bed, apply this mixture on your hair and scalp; leave it overnight. Next day rinse it off with warm water.

7.  Baking soda:

This acts as an exfoliating treatment and prevents buildup of fungi. First apply some olive oil to the scalp and then prepare a mixture of baking soda and water and apply this paste onto the scalp. Wash it off after 10 minutes; repeat this treatment once a week for best results.

8.  Garlic:

Garlic is treated as an excellent anti-fungal remedies for dandruff. The natural anti-biotic and allicin present in garlic are perfect for eliminating fungus and candida that lives on the scalp.

  • Crush garlic with a little bit of honey and massage into the scalp.
  • Leave it for 15-30 minutes
  • Rinse it with warm water.

9.  Coconut Oil:

As you know, coconut oil has many utilities. That’s why it is considered as one of the effective home remedies for dandruff. Coconut helps to completely remove dandruff because of the antifungal properties.
